Day-by-day itinerary

Day01 Islamabad to Keran

We leave Islamabad at 6:00 am and drive through Murree and Kohala to Muzaffarabad (about 3 to 3.5 hours) for breakfast. From there we follow the Neelum road upstream, stopping at Dhani Waterfall, and reach Keran by late afternoon (about 3 hours). The evening is free by the river, which marks the Line of Control.

  • Evening walk along the Neelum at Keran
  • Dinner and overnight in Keran

Day02 Sharda, Kel and Arang Kel

After an early breakfast we drive through Dowarian to Sharda (about 2.5 hours) and on to Kel (about 1 hour). At Kel the chairlift crosses the river and climbs towards Arang Kel, followed by a steep walk of about 40 minutes to the village and its meadow. In the afternoon we return to Sharda for a look at the Sharada Peeth ruins, then a bonfire and BBQ dinner.

  • The chairlift can stop in heavy snow or strong wind; the full walk up from Kel takes about 2 hours

Day03 Sharda to Islamabad via Kutton

We leave Sharda at 7:00 am and drive back down the valley, turning into the Jagran valley at Kundal Shahi for Kutton Waterfall. After a late lunch stop in Muzaffarabad we continue to Islamabad, arriving around 7:00 to 8:00 pm.

  • Drop-off in Islamabad around 7:00 to 8:00 pm
  • December date: if snow closes the road beyond Sharda, we stay in Keran and spend day two around Keran, Neelum village and Dowarian instead
